Government of West Bengal to introduce class 5 in 2335 primary schools by 2025-2026

The West Bengal state government has decided to introduce class 5 in 2335 primary schools in the state from the academic year 2025. The decision was taken in accordance with the Act on the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education.

Primary schools in West Bengal: The state government of West Bengal will introduce class 5 in another 2,335 primary schools from next school year. According to media reports, the decision was made in accordance with the Law on the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education. As per available data, class 5 has already been introduced in 18,000 primary schools in the state.

The 2,335 primary schools have been asked to take the necessary steps with immediate effect so that class 5 can be introduced into the schools themselves from January 2025. According to reports, Class 5 will be introduced in 29,000 government and state-aided primary schools.

In the past, classes 1 to 4 were taught at primary schools, while class 5 was part of secondary education.
