Your child will Nothing– even eat edamame or poop on the potty – if a certain Blue Heeler cartoon dog thinks that’s cool. Money is now “dollar money,” life’s challenges are considered “hard,” and you’re just as likely to binge episodes in private as your toddler. You entered the Blue-verse, and for your child’s birthday, you know there is only one theme that will do.

There is no shame; you are in a safe space, because I am there too. Although I would love to plan a trip to Brisbane to visit Bluey’s World, it’s a little out of budget. But something homemade? Well, that’s what I can tackle. Here’s how to launch a Blue– an inspired party for your kids – without staying up all night creating tedious favors or carefully making the Heelers house out of paper mache (but if you do, more power to you – and send me the photos via E-mail).

“Bluey” pepper is the ultimate mom icon

1. Choose your Pun-Tastic theme

@lexmcfarlane

Are you even throwing a kids party in 2024 if the invitation doesn’t include a punny (or insider) reference to the theme and age of your child? Are you?! Watch all you want, but you know that’s part of the fun. Here are some ideas shared by parents:

  • This episode of Bluey is called… (NAME)’s birthday!

  • (Name) was not “born yesterday”: she is (AGE)!

  • Wackadoo, (NAME) is 2 years old!

  • Like Muffin, (NAME) is young, wild and 3 years old

  • Goodbye Trifficult Twos, (NAME) is 3 years old!

  • Four Real Life, it’s (NAME)’s birthday!

  • Are you cereal?! (NAME) is (AGE)!

  • Ah the cookies! It’s (NAME)’s birthday!

  • Bring out the duck cake, it’s (NAME)’s birthday!

2. Create a photo-worthy focal point

To set the mood, all you need is a photo backdrop and a carefully edited color palette. Blue, orange, beige and navy are an obvious choice here and will make the room feel more decorated, without requiring you to cover every inch of the party area.

For $13, this backdrop and props combo is a solid (if flimsy) choice, allowing people to wear Rita and Janet’s grandma glasses or pose with Chattermax in front of the Heeler family home.

If you’re feeling extra and want something a little elevated, try ordering a trendy metal arch and covering one side with a blue balloon arch. Flank it with a pair of 32-inch-tall Bluey and Bingo balloons, add overhead streamers and coordinating tablecloths, and you can call it a day.

Recreating Bandit’s famous duck cake (with a potato chip beak) is a solid option, although I’ll be honest: recreating Bluey’s face with cake is a fun afternoon project that’s pretty hard to mess up . Honestly. After making this for my daughter’s birthday using a 9″ x 13″ pan and pieces of buttercream frosting, a few friends asked for a step-by-step explanation, which I shared on Pinterest. Since then, I’ve received nearly a dozen DMs from people who created Bluey and Bingo variations, all much better than my original tribute to the Blue Heeler.

Cake aside, you can’t go wrong with any of these series-inspired bites:

4. Play these very suitable games for the Bluey

Ah, Bluey, congratulations to you for keeping the children’s imagination alive with many (free!) games. The show itself is full of easy-to-replicate activities, such as:

  • Pass the package (Lucky’s Dad version, of course) — Cover a treat or small toy with layers and layers of wrapping paper. Start playing music by asking the children to sit in a circle and pass the object from one person to the next. When the music stops, the person holding the gift can unwrap a layer. Repeat until the gift is unwrapped and the person holding it gets to keep it.

  • Stay tuned — Take a red balloon, fill it with air and do everything you can to keep it from hitting the ground. Once it does, the game (or that round) is over.

  • Toilet etiquette — Imagine a frozen tag, only anyone who is frozen has to sit and pretend to be a toilet until someone who isn’t comes and “flushes” them free. Anyone turned into a toilet three times is eliminated, until you are left with one winner.

  • What time is it, Mrs. Wolf? — Like Red Light, Green Light, one person (aka “Ms. Wolf”) stands at one end of the room, her back turned to the crowd. Everyone stands on opposite sides and shouts, “What time is it, Mrs. Wolf?” Ms. Wolf turns around and announces a time, such as “3 p.m.,” before turning her back on the group again. Time = the number of steps people can take towards our dear wolf. Once everyone is very close, watch out: Mrs. Wolf may respond that “it’s dinner time!” » and chase the other players. If she touches anyone before they get back to the starting line, she’s the new Mrs. Wolf.

5. Replace Generic Favors with Feathered Wands

…or Granny glasses. Setting up a craft station where kids can make any of the accessories from the series will definitely be a hit.

  • For feather wands: These blue and gold feathers match the ones in the series quite well. To take it to the next level, you can install ¼-inch dowels, ribbon, plastic bead chains, and duct tape, letting kids go wild designing their own fancier wands. Just watch out for the “heavy ones!” » commands next.

  • For Granny glasses: Order eyeglass-style sunglasses in bulk and offer a range of items to accessorize them, from rhinestones to buttons to feathers. Blue stickers. Adhesive dots can help hold items in place, unless you want to arm two parents with hot glue guns and let them man the “apply and cool station” so tools stay out of the way. within reach of little hands.

6. Plan your evenings

No, not tantrums, those can happen quite naturally on their own. I’m talking about party outfits because there’s a whole world of Bluey products worth exploring. Hanna Andersson has swimsuits and pajamas, perfect for a sleepover or pool party, Target has the summer dress market cornered, and there are all kinds of shirts, even button-downs for dads bandits among us, who are worth considering.
