Porsche crash case: Social media outrage leads to bond cancellation, defendants likely to be treated as ‘adults’

The recent case of a Porsche accident involving a minor that tragically killed two people in Pune took a dramatic turn following a wave of outrage on social media. The 17-year-old driver, initially released on bail within 15 hours by the Juvenile Justice Board (JJB), faced lenient bail conditions which sparked widespread public anger. The bail conditions, which included writing a reflective essay and working with traffic police, were seen as too lenient given the seriousness of the charges.

In response to the backlash, the Pune Juvenile Justice Board revoked the juvenile’s bail and ordered his placement in an observation home. Additionally, the commission is currently considering whether to try the teenager as an adult, which could result in a harsher sentence if he is found guilty.

The father of the minor involved in the luxury vehicle accident was placed in police custody until May 24. The Juvenile Justice Commission also issued a summons to the 17-year-old, requiring him to appear before it on Wednesday.

The tragic accident claimed the lives of two young IT professionals, Ashwini Koshta and Aneesh Awadhia, both from Madhya Pradesh. Police also sought custody of bar staff who served alcohol to the accused teen and his friend.

Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar gave an update on the case, saying, “We have filed a review petition with the Juvenile Justice Board, requesting that the accused be tried as an adult and that he be sent to a remand center. »

He added: “The operational order was communicated to us by the Juvenile Justice Board and the accused was sent to remand home for 14 days till June 5. The orders regarding his trial as adult will follow in due time.” With contributions from ANI.
