Middle Judicial Band storage room damaged by fire

A music storage room at Judice Middle School was severely damaged following a fire Wednesday evening, the Lafayette Fire Department said.

Firefighters from the Judice, Scott and Duson fire departments responded to an alarm at the school at 9:45 p.m. First responders found smoke coming from the building and determined the fire was coming from a room musical instrument storage, Lafayette Fire Department spokesman Alton Trahan said. in a report.

The fire was quickly extinguished, but the room and several instruments suffered heavy damage. Smoke and water damage was also noted in the immediate area, he said.

Authorities determined the fire started when a fan in the storage room failed electrically, which ignited combustible materials in the storage room.
