Meet “Moonshine,” a new 119-foot superyacht with an otherworldly interior

Moonen Yachts wants you to lounge in the 119 feet Moonshine.

The Dutch shipyard has just revealed the stunning interior of the new superyacht it launched in April. Moonshine is the sixth hull in Moonen’s successful Martinique series, but it has been customized to suit the owner’s tastes and requirements.

Written by Dutch designer René van der Velden, Martinique yachts feature fast-displacement steel hulls, classic silhouettes and expansive interior-exterior layouts. (Moonen of course has a reputation for designing magnificent explorers.) Moonshine is a little shorter than three of the Martiniques, as the yacht had to fit snugly into a storage location specified by the owner. The 199-footer, however, is still as robust as the other larger examples.

Designed for long-distance transatlantic voyages, Moonshine is equipped with two Caterpillar engines which allow a cruising speed of 14.5 knots, a top speed of 17 knots and a range of 4,000 nautical miles at 10 knots. With an interior volume of 345 GT and a width of 26 feet, the newcomer is also very spacious.

“Moonshine” leaves the Dutch shipyard in April.

The owners commissioned Hollander Yacht Design to create “a rich interior full of character”. The Dutch studio’s co-founders, Simon Hollander and Alexandra Nicolaescu, opted for an elegant mix of otherworldly textures and a moon-inspired palette. The silver and beige hues of the main deck evoke the light side of the moon, while the blues and grays of the deck reflect the dark side.

“The end result is a yacht that entertains and surprises you every time you turn a corner,” Nicolaescu said in a statement. “The owners emphasized the importance of infusing distinct personalities into each area of the yacht based on its function.”

As for housing, Moonshine can accommodate 12 guests in one owner’s cabin, two VIP and two guest cabins. The twin has splashes of reds and oranges that resemble Mars more than the Moon. The yacht can also accommodate up to seven crew members via a captain’s cabin and three crew cabins.

“The great advantage of having our own in-house experts is that we can respond quickly and flexibly to owners’ requests throughout construction,” adds John Bechtold, Moonen project manager. “This was certainly the case for Moonshine and the result is an interior design tailored to the owners’ vision.

The highlight of the exterior is the terrace. The open-air space is adorned with a superb spa, a five-seat bar and luxurious seating from which you can enjoy the sun or the moon.

Moonshine will be delivered to its owners before the summer season, according to Moonen. The yacht will spend the remainder of the year cruising the Mediterranean and Caribbean before reaching its new home in San Diego, California.
