UPDATE: Friday’s waves of rain could impact Saturday’s races. The speedway released the following statement Friday morning:

We are monitoring the weather closely and will keep you updated as it happens. The facility is in excellent condition and can handle rain, but we will need drying conditions to accommodate the shows. We will provide an update at 5pm today with a final call before 10am tomorrow whether Saturday’s race will take place or not.

After a successful debut racing season last year, Dead Horse Creek Speedway is ready to put its foot on the metal this summer. The Cadillac McNaught Cup will kick off the season on May 25-26.

Chris Unrau joined the Morning Show and talked about the speedway’s debut last year, saying, “Last February, we had this vision of taking this facility and really kicking it up a notch and we brought lots of improvements last year We We resurfaced the track with a new layer of clay, we did a whole bunch of things to really spruce it up and get it where we wanted it to go. It was a phenomenal year, extremely successful. We sold out the place both times at two o’clock on the weekends last year.

After a great response from the community last year, Deadhorse Creek Speedway will host three events over the next four months: the McNaught Cadillac Cup this weekend, followed by the GVE Deere Run on July 5-6 and the King of the Corn in August. 23 and 24.

For the first time, they bring the Northern Late Model Racing Association (NLRA) to speedway. Unrau explained what that means: “The NRLA is a touring series with riders from all over the region, Manitoba, North Dakota, Minnesota, Wisconsin and South Dakota a little bit. These are guys running 800-900 horsepower, huge cars that are simply the fastest on the track. They have big tires, put a lot of rubber and move extremely fast on this track.

With a rain warning in the forecast and the possibility of 50mm of rain, work is underway to ensure racing can take place over the weekend. Unrau says that while they are set up for success in many ways, they still have no control over the rain. He mentioned that a positive factor is that Deadhorse Creek has good drainage.

“We’re kind of on top of the hill, the rain is falling and everything is flowing down and away from us. So that’s a good thing. We’re built on sand and gravel, which drains pretty well . So that’s also a good thing.”

During the offseason, they planned and added new features to the track for this year, including a large LED screen that will display driver information and statistics. They also added the LMS Ag leaderboard, where spectators can track the remaining laps and who is in the lead. Unrau was also excited about the fact that fans can now stream the races live: “If you can’t watch the race, you’re in the campground and you have good internet and you just want to sit near the fire and watch some races. You can log on to watchfye.tv and buy a pass to watch the race online. So there are a lot of great options that are new for this year and we’re very excited to be able to bring it all. that.
