RIP, Kabosu – Shiba Inu who inspired the Dogecoin (DOGE) Memecoin movement died at 18

It’s a sad day for the crypto community as one of the most lovable faces in the space has passed away.

The cryptoverse woke up this morning to a tragic announcement: the Shiba Inu who inspired Dogecoin (DOGE) has died.

Kabosu, the photogenic Japanese Shiba Inu who inspired countless Internet memes and ultimately the DOGE memecoin, took his last nap this morning shortly before 8 a.m., according to his owner’s blog.

“Kabo-chan

Today May 24

At 7:50 a.m.

I fell asleep…

On the other side of the window

The birds sing

On a beautiful morning

Caressed me

Sleep

It happened slowly…”

Kabuso was 18 years old, 126 in dog years.

The official Dogecoin X account shared the following message in his memory:

“Today, Kabosu, the friend and shared inspiration of our community, passed away peacefully in her arms. The impact of this dog across the world is immeasurable.

He was a being who only knew happiness and limitless love.

Please keep her spirit and that of her family in your heart, and above all, carry her with you throughout your story – we are all lucky that hers touched and shaped ours.

Atsuko Sado, the kindergarten teacher who saved Kabosu in 2008, has long blogged about her life and pets. In 2010, she shared a seemingly mundane photo shoot of Kabuso. Little did she know: she was about to change the Internet forever.

The adorable Shiba Inu has inspired more memes than one could measure. Eventually, the Internet joke became a cryptocurrency that far exceeded the expectations and intentions of its founders. This memecoin inspired the owner of an electric car company to believe in crypto, pushing digital assets deeper into the mainstream consciousness. Now, with the US election approaching, cryptocurrency has become a major political topic – thanks in part to the attention brought to the sector by a very cute little dog in Japan.

Rest in peace, Kabosu. The world will never be the same again.
