‘Dangerous’ Armored Car Thief Wanted by Chicago FBI; ,000 offered for information

CHICAGO — The FBI is offering a reward of up to $20,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of an Indiana man wanted for his alleged role in a recent string of armored vehicle thefts in the southern suburbs.

Authorities say nine of 10 suspects with ties to a group known as the Perry Avenue Boys are in custody following several crimes, including a shooting caught on camera in front of Walmart shoppers in Country Club Hills.

A 20-year-old man, Aveon Wilson, whom Chicago FBI Special Agent Daniel Broeckelmann considers a “very dangerous individual,” remains at large.

“They are extremely violent. They are blind by nature, driven by greed. They will do whatever they can to get that money,” Broeckelmann said.

Last October, at a crime scene involving the group, several people attempted to burglarize an armored truck. During their escape, the group is accused of committing other crimes.

“They actually fled the scene in their car, and the driver of the armored vehicle entered the vehicle, rendering it inoperable. The suspects then continued shooting,” Broeckelmann said. “They encountered a young family and tried to carjack them. But without success. And instead, they carjacked the car of an old Vietnam veteran who was coming to stop in the parking lot.

Two sets of brothers are among ten men now charged with plotting to rob armored trucks and ATMs in suburban Chicago.

“They often take the ATM technician or security guard by surprise,” Broeckelmann said. “This group, in particular, is extremely reckless. They operate in teams of two to five, each armed with a semi-automatic handgun or rifle at the time of the robbery.

Authorities say Wilson has ties to South Chicago, Gary, Indiana and Indianapolis and can be recognized by his thick eyebrows, long dreads and tattoos.

“He is one of our last major targets associated with the Perry Avenue Boys,” Broeckelmann said. “The Perry Avenue Boys have been around for a while. It’s from 124th Street and Perry Avenue in West Pullman Chicago.
