Reisen and Tarkowski qualify for national track and field competition

Two Door County girls and a relay team from Gibraltar qualified for the WIAA state track meet May 31-June 1 in La Crosse.

At Thursday’s Division 2 sectional at Appleton, Sturgeon Bay junior Ella Tarkowski placed second in the 100 meters (12.9) to qualify for state.

Gibraltar senior McKailey Reisen, who competed in the Division 3 sectional Thursday in Rosholt, returns to state in two events after finishing second in the 100 hurdles (16.18) and third in the high jump (5 feet, 1 inch).

Reisen is also a member of the Vikings’ 4×100 relay, which qualified for state with a fourth-place finish in 52.18.

The top four finishers in each event in Division 2 and 3 sections all qualified.

The Gibraltar girls collected 19 points during the Rosholt sectional to place 18th out of 34 teams to score in the standings.

The Sevastopol girls, who were in the same section as the Vikings, tallied five points, with a sixth-place finish in the 4×200 relay (1:52.27) and Caitlyn Fellner placing seventh in the 400 (1:03, 1).

The only Sevastopol boy to finish among the top eight in scoring was Jairus Dadam, seventh in the pole vault (11-6).

The Sturgeon Bay girls, who placed 17th in their Division 2 sectional with 13 points, also got a sixth-place finish from Cady Carlson in the 400m (1:01.61), while Jade Tomberlin found herself at five-way tie for fifth place. high jump (4-10).

The Southern Door girls, who placed 21st with nine points in the same Division 2 sectional, had three top-eight finishes with Danica Neville fifth in the pole vault (9-6), Frankie Nellis sixth in the triple vault (33-5) and Elise Jackson seventh in the 100 hurdles (17.9).

The only top-eight finishes for the Eagle Boys came from Alaric Urban, eighth in the long jump (19-6) and Cruz Calvillo also eighth in the discus (145-2).
