Stunning American castles straight out of a fairy tale

In 1986, John met his future wife, Yvonne, who “turned a pile of stones into a house”. When John’s son was a teenager, he helped with construction, focusing on exterior masonry. “Naturally resourceful, he recruited his high school football teammates to provide some muscle during the summer months,” John says.

A slow process, laying more than 1,000 tons of local granite took decades. In fact, the construction of the house took 42 years. Today, the estate has three castles converted into holiday homes, which also serve as a wedding venue.
