BMW Skytop presents a GT inspired by the Z8 and equipped with a V8 engine

The buttresses sit above wide rear haunches that extend rearward to visually elongate the new concept. The trunk features a distinctive central bulkhead that mirrors that of the hood, and curves upward to form a small ducktail spoiler that resembles the E63-generation 6 Series created under former BMW design chief Chris Bangle .

Like the Z8, produced from 1999 to 2006, the Skytop is equipped with thin horizontal brake lights, which use OLED technology. Lower down, two oval-shaped exhaust outlets are integrated into the rear bumper.

Long doors with three subtle feature lines and fins that replace conventional door handles provide access to a leather-trimmed – and remarkably realistic – interior. The cabin features the latest generation of BMW’s iDrive infotainment system, a familiar shift lever for the automatic gearbox and a conventional multifunction steering wheel.

Similar in style and layout to the existing 8 Series, it also features leather seats with brogue accents and stitching, as well as the use of crystal on the gear lever and stainless steel for the pedals.

BMW’s latest concept eschews purely electric power in favor of what the company calls “the most powerful V8 engine in BMW’s powertrain lineup” – namely the 4.4-liter twin-turbo unit that powers the M cars the most powerful and produces up to 626 hp in its version. the most powerful appearance. It’s another spiritual nod to the Z8, which used a 5.0-liter V8 engine rated at 395 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque.
