KKR brutally attacks Pat Cummins for his ‘silence’ remark after steamrolling SRH in final to win third IPL title

KKR brutally attacks Pat Cummins for his ‘silence’ remark after steamrolling SRH in final to win third IPL title

Social media has its own way of working. Mostly made up of fanatics, their reasoning or view of things, here purely in terms of sports, is very different from the way experts or veteran athletes give their view on things. Amid the general chatter in the build-up to the match between Kolkata Knight Riders and Sunrisers Hyderabad, a section of fans on social media supported KKR only to prevent an Australian captain from winning another trophy on Indian soil. Notably, Sunrisers captain Pat Cummins had led Australia to a superb ODI World Cup trophy victory against India in Ahmedabad last November. And KKR responded to the discussion on social media after their IPL title win.

KKR showed no mercy towards Pat Cummins after winning IPL 2024 title

It was a lopsided match at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Sunday where the Sunrisers never managed to gain the upper hand since going down by two points in the second match. They were bundled out for just 113 runs in 18.3 overs after opting to bat first, thus registering the lowest ever total in an IPL final. In response, Venkatesh Iyer’s spirited, unbeaten knock of 52 off 26 was enough to help KKR wrap up the chase in just 10.3 overs as the team clinched their third IPL title in history.

After the win, KKR took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to post a video captioned: “No more silence.” It featured skipper Shreyas Iyer, Rahmadulla Gurbaz and Ramandeep Singh with a finger-to-lip gesture, thus sternly reminding Cummins of his World Cup commentary.

“There’s nothing more satisfying than hearing a big crowd go silent,” Cummins had said as a warning before the biggest match of his career at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad last November. Cummins did the exact same thing in the final against India, who were heavy favorites, with the crowd going completely silent after Virat Kohli was dismissed by the captain.

“We’re in the middle of a battle after Kohli’s wicket in the final and (Steve) Smith says, ‘Boys, listen to the crowd.’ And we just took a break, and it was as quiet as a library, there were over 100,000 Indians there and it was so peaceful. I will savor that moment for a long time,” recalls. he later in an interview with “The Age”.

Cummins, who was on a captaincy streak winning the WTC title, Ashes and the ODI World Cup, was billed as the third Australian after David Warner (2016) and Adam Gilchrist (2009) to win an IPL trophy as skipper . But a lackluster display from the SRH batting saw the 2016 champions silenced.
