The Monaco Grand Prix is known for its occasional bizarre moments, but this weekend’s incident involving a boat in Monte Carlo harbor tops them all.

Images of Monaco’s harbor with yachts worth millions are an iconic part of the Monaco Grand Prix, with many of the world’s wealthy moored in Monte Carlo for the weekend.

Many F1 drivers even come to the track by boat, as if one luxury mode of transportation wasn’t enough.

But while most of the action was taking place on the runway, an empty boat appeared to malfunction and flew toward a stationary yacht and a small dinghy in the harbor. The berserk boat narrowly missed spectators walking on a nearby pier and managed to spot it just in time to avoid being hit.

A video of the incident has since gone viral and distracted from all the action on the track. Probably because this freak accident could very well be the costliest of the Monaco Grand Prix.

Fans confirmed on social media that no one was injured in the boat accident and the party atmosphere is sure to continue.

As things stand in the World Drivers’ Championship race, Max Verstappen is still in the lead but Charles Leclerc has a good opportunity to close the gap with his victory.

Leclerc kept his cool to convert pole position at his home Monaco Grand Prix into a controlled victory after a huge pile-up on the opening lap. A collision between the two Haas cars and Red Bull’s Sergio Perez caused a red flag and led to a race of extreme tire management by the leaders.

Truly a weekend of action on and off the track.
