Layoffs can happen at any time without notice and can be devastating. A bride recently told how she received heartbreaking news on what was supposed to be one of the happiest days of her life. She told her story on “The Ben Askins Show”, explaining how a WhatsApp message from her boss ruined her best day. She said that while she was enjoying her wedding reception with her relatives in Cyprus, she received a message from her boss informing her that her employment had ended.

The bride, who lives in the UK, told the YouTuber that her boss and other colleague knew it was the day she would get married. “And (my boss) started with the text message: ‘I hope your wedding day went well and you had a good time.'”

She then read the rest of the text message: “I just wanted to let you know that the decision has been made to unfortunately let you go. An email has been sent to your personal email detailing this. I am so sorry . that it didn’t work and I wish you good luck for the future.”

At this point, the YouTuber chimed in to say he was stunned by the boss’s inexplicable decision to fire the bride on such an important day in her life. “I just don’t know what to say to that because it’s one of the worst things I’ve ever heard because this is supposed to be one of the best, most amazing days ever .And they did,” he said.

The woman then explained how she saw her boss’s message. “I didn’t keep my phone on me at all during the (ceremony) and it wasn’t until I sat down (later) and thought, ‘I have a lot of wishes to make.’ And the first thing I noticed was that I was blocked and excluded from all the (company) WhatsApp groups,” she recalls. “I was like, ‘Oh, what-. what’s going on here?'”

“And then I saw the message from (my boss) and all my friends (sitting) around me and I just gasped. So of course the next thing you do is go check your emails,” the bride continued.

Additionally, the woman said that in the official termination email, she was informed that she was losing her job because “her performance did not meet the expectations we require for the position.” However, the bride added that she was never given any indication that her performance was not up to par and that she suspected the company had been considering firing her for some time.

“They recently hired someone onto our team, who (looking back) I think was just my replacement all the time,” she explained, noting that the new employee started on same day she was traveling to get married.

The woman said she felt “really angry” about how her former employer had handled the situation. “I think it was a bit of a cowardly way to go about it while I’m not here. They had the opportunity to do it in person,” she said. The bride also added that instead of enjoying this new chapter of her life with her partner, she was busy finding a new job. “All I do is apply for a job,” she said.
