The court is considering early bail release of PP Divya today

Thalassery: The District General Sessions Court in Thalassery will on Thursday consider the bail application of former Kannur district panchayat president PP Divya, who is accused of abetting the suicide of Additional District Magistrate (ADM) Naveen Babu .

In her bail application, Divya said that she attended the farewell function of the ADM at the invitation of District Collector Arun K. Vijayan and denied reports that she was not invited. She emphasized that her comments during the event were made with the good intentions of a public representative.

The petition also highlighted their willingness to cooperate with the investigation. The reasons given for granting bail were her duties as primary carer of her elderly parents, spouse and daughter.

Kannur city police have charged Divya on several non-bailable charges, including abetment to suicide, which could carry a maximum prison sentence of 10 years. The ongoing investigation includes questioning Divya and taking statements from the district collector and TV Prasanth, the complainant in a Naveen Babu-related bribery case.

District Collectorate Revenue Office officials have refuted Divya’s claim that she was invited to the farewell function and said her presence was unexpected.
