San Lorenzo River mural sends vital message – Santa Cruz Sentinel

The nearby San Lorenzo River provides an informative backdrop as Jessica Carmen and Augie WK create a mural last week on Third Street in Santa Cruz, along the river’s levee. Jessica and Augie, who name their artist team “The Jams,” paint their message in Spanish and English to encourage people to visit the river and illustrate our connection to this vital resource. As current Coastal Watershed Council Artists in Residence, the duo have brought a variety of artworks to life over the past few months through their Central Coast Creative Corps residency. This included painting a community mural at the Nueva Vista Community Resources office on East Cliff Drive and working with Watershed Rangers and Coastal Watershed Council board member Linda Cover to create animal drawings wild for river banners. The river artwork is made possible in part by a new grant from the California State Coastal Conservancy. (Shmuel Thaler – Santa Cruz Sentinel)
