ENT surgeon's post on 'parental guidance fee of Rs 8,400' leaves many shocked; Is education all about profit?

A recent incident involving a heavy school admission fee generated widespread discussion and criticism on social media. The focus of the outrage is an exorbitant charge of 8,400 rupees for a parental guidance session, raising concerns about the commercialization of education. This issue has resonated with many, highlighting the growing burden of educational expenses on families and sparking debate about the accessibility and affordability of quality education. The viral post, originally shared by a medical professional, fueled a broader conversation about the state of the education system and the need for reform.

ENT surgeon’s viral post about the fee

An ENT surgeon, deeply disturbed by the exorbitant cost, shared the image on X (formerly Twitter). He expressed his frustration, pointing out that parents willing to pay this amount for a counseling session would likely be hesitant to spend even a fraction of the amount on a doctor’s visit.

The surgeon’s post about the “parental guidance fee of Rs 8,400” quickly went viral. Jagdish Chaturvedi, a surgeon who is also a comedian and businessman, captioned the image: “Rs 8,400 INR parental guidance fee!!! No parent would ever agree to pay even 20% of that for a doctor’s appointment… I’m thinking about opening a school now.”

Social media backlash against fee structure

As expected, the fee structure provoked widespread anger. Many social media users expressed frustration, with some highlighting that education is turning into a profitable business. One user wrote: “We need a revolution in the education system. Can startups create a quality and accessible educational structure?”
Another added: “It’s all about profit, nothing more!” A third commented on how people are being taken advantage of, stating: “People are willing to pay and therefore are looting. If there were no buyers, they would reduce the rate.” A quarter echoed the sentiment, saying: “Parents are willing to spend more on their children than on themselves, fueling the rise in expensive schools and training centres.”

Original post from December 2023 sparks renewed debate over rising education costs

Although the image has been circulating online, it has not been posted recently. It was originally shared in December 2023 with a sarcastic comment: “Now I understand why my father sent me to a government school”, along with the breakdown of nursery and Junior KG fees for the 2024-25 batch.
The viral discussion highlighted a growing public demand for reform in the education sector. With many calling for an affordable education that still offers high-quality learning, the conversation continues to focus on how the rising cost of education is becoming unaffordable for many families.
