Tourists are shocked as migrants board truck

Tourists on a coach were shocked to see several migrants board the back of a truck in Calais bound for the UK.

The incident was filmed and one person was heard gasping as around six men managed to board the truck, which was queuing to board a ferry in the French port.

A passenger filmed as a large number of migrants surrounded the vehicle which was just in front of the bus.

A tour guide tried to reassure passengers, telling them: “Don’t panic guys. We’ve locked all the doors. Try not to panic guys.”

One of the shocked passengers asks: “He’s a hardcore man.” Don’t they monitor this?

Some migrants apparently approached the bus. One passenger said: “Shivers, almost ran over someone huh,” adding “Holey Moley.”

Other migrants who gathered around the truck then slammed the rear doors after appearing to realize they could not get on board.

Some were also seen trying to remove the truck’s side panels.

The video was filmed by Jenny Adams, from New Zealand, who is traveling with her husband Dave.

Mr Adams wrote on his blog: “On our way back from Europe we encountered a group of refugees who had set up camp just outside the port of Calais.

“Refugees, desperate to cross the Channel to the UK to find better work opportunities and safety as they flee their own countries, have begun to riot by setting up roadblocks and have begun to climbing into the hollows of trucks, breaking windows and opening side panels while looking for supplies.”

“Behind our bus, many migrants began to climb into the car of a lone elderly woman, which would have been very traumatic,” he added.

He explained that his wife “had to stop filming when one of the refugees saw her filming and threatened to throw a stone through the windshield.”

He also wrote: “Moments after the video ended, the migrants began to flee as French police arrived in riot gear, searching the trucks and directing the refugees back to their camp. »

Around 2,500 migrants, mostly from Sudan, Eritrea and Syria, live in a makeshift tent village in Calais, nicknamed “the jungle”.

Mr Adams said that although he was shocked by the incident, he also had sympathy for the migrants.

He wrote: “Although we were initially shocked and alarmed, as you can hear in the video, because this event is so foreign to us, our hearts truly go out to the residents of the Calais migrant camp.”

Mr Adams continued: “We were really lucky that our driver locked our luggage compartments under the bus (otherwise our stuff would have been gone a long time ago) and they didn’t figure out the door release switch. emergency on the rear door which would have allowed them to board.

“In general, refugee camps tend to be harmless, but that day their group seemed to have an extra level of desperation.”
