Best room in…The Wall Street Hotel

Tranquility isn’t always something you expect to find in Manhattan’s bustling financial district. The Wall Street Hotel, opened in 2022 by the Papspaley family (as in Papspaley Pearling Company), fulfills the wish of the building’s former owner, Allan Gerdeau, who dreamed that it would one day become “an oasis of charm and culture “. The moment one leaves the teeming streets of downtown (at the corner of Wall and Pearl streets, to be clear), one’s shoulders drop. Finally a moment of peace in the busiest place on the planet.

In addition to the 180 rooms and suites, the hotel houses the Lounge On Pearl, its jewel-toned cocktail lounge, the new Tontine rooftop bar and La Marchande, the restaurant of Michelin-starred chef John Fraser, making the hotel a destination for locals, not just guests, in a neighborhood full of them. It’s a place where “guests can come together, be together, and where everyone feels like they’re walking through the doors of their friend’s house,” says Lauren Schubert, the property’s director of marketing and communications. After enjoying a martini and fries in the lounge, or oysters and rib-eye steak in the restaurant, you can head to spacious rooms which pay homage in their colors and decoration to the mother-of-pearl shells synonymous with the Papspaley name. . Absolute calm washes over you as you admire breathtaking views of New York Harbor. This is how it’s supposed to be.

Here, Schubert tells us about his favorite hotel room and what makes staying in the Financial District so special.

What do you think is the best room in the property and why?

All of our rooms have unique features, but the Otto Suites are the hotel’s premier offering. They have over 800 square feet and are meant to feel like home, where guests truly have space to relax, entertain, and do what they came to New York to do. They have a separate living room and an additional half bathroom. They are truly perfect for guests who are looking for a longer stay and need more space to relax.

I think the most special part of the Otto Suite is the private sanctuary that is the bathroom. It’s quite massive and I’d say it’s the same size as an apartment in New York! The deep soaking tub, large marble shower, and heated bathroom floor make the space feel very luxurious. It’s the piece de resistance, that’s for sure.

How much is it per night ?

On average, this suite costs $1,800 per night.

How would you describe the guests and the atmosphere of the hotel?

We have a sophisticated and elegant, yet fun vibe. The hotel’s inspiration, from the entrance to the rooms, is inspired by classic New York residences. It’s a place where people from all over the world can come together and feel welcome here. Our guests truly come from all walks of life, so we see business travelers, leisure travelers, families, couples and even solo travelers. I think because of our location, we naturally see a lot of people visiting this area for business, but we also see those people extending their stay to enjoy the location and the city in general. What we call a leisure travel, a mix of business and leisure travel.

What feeling about the city and neighborhood do you hope to convey to guests?

New York is such a special place, and it’s a city that offers something for everyone. At the hotel we wanted to convey this feeling: no matter where you come from or who you are with, we want everyone to feel at home here. Especially at Lounge On Pearl and La Marchande, we wanted people in the community to feel like this hotel is a refuge from the hustle and bustle of the city. You can come and escape here after work or use it as a workplace. We can be that oasis.

What is one local attraction that you always recommend?

There are so many! New places appear every day. The vibe is so different in the financial district. This area in particular has really experienced a renaissance and there is life here. For foodies we always recommend the Tin Building, if you want to go shopping we recommend Brookfield Place or the Oculus. And for those just looking for a great view, we recommend Pier 17 and its incredible views of the Brooklyn Bridge, especially at night when everything is lit up. There is certainly never a shortage of places to recommend.
