Calls for Hannah Yeoh to resign are unfair

KUALA LUMPUR: Calls for Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh to resign are unfair, says Wanita DAP leader Teo Nie Ching.

She said this in response to United Rights Party Malaysia (Urimai) president P. Ramasamy’s call for Hannah’s resignation over allegations that the contract for the transport pilot project High Speed Rail (DRT) by the Selangor state government was reportedly awarded to Hannah. my husband’s business through direct negotiations.

“If the investigation proves that there is an abuse of power, I believe that she (Hannah) will be subject to the same level of investigation.

“…I think she will cooperate with any type of investigation, but the question is whether it is appropriate for her to resign, I think it’s too soon,” she said today today during a press conference.

Teo, who is also DAP’s national publicity secretary, also questioned the action of former Penang Deputy Chief Minister II for 15 years, who failed to do the same when former secretary General, now DAP chairman Lim Guan Eng, was charged in court.

“Did Ramasamy then ask Lim Guan Eng to resign and why did he change his position now? Was it because he now wanted to be an angel after leaving DAP? ” she says.

Yesterday, the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) explained that it had conducted an interim investigation into the issue of the state government’s award of the Demand Response Transport (DRT) pilot project contract. of Selangor to Yeoh’s husband’s company, but did not find any wrongdoing.

MACC chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki said he therefore decided there was no case in the matter.

Asia Mobility Technologies Sdn Bhd, a company owned by Hannah’s husband, is one of two companies selected for the DRT pilot project.

DRT is an initiative by the state government to improve the efficiency of public transport and mobility services in Selangor.

Meanwhile, at the same press conference, Teo launched Wanita DAP’s HERLEAD programme, a political education program designed to empower and equip female party members with the skills and knowledge to become influential political leaders .

She said the specially designed program featured a holistic approach combining compact educational modules with a mentoring program to ensure participants could gain appropriate theoretical knowledge and practical guidance within one year.

“(Most) political parties give the excuse of lack of (female) candidates, this HERLEAD program is designed to overcome this problem…we find that the talent pool is quite limited.

“…we now want to invite those who are interested in politics to join this program so that we can see their (potential and capabilities) and then we can prepare various programs to (empower) them…we have l “I intend to help parties identify our talent pool,” she said.

HERLEAD’s first program will take place on June 22-23 in Kuala Lumpur and interested female DAP members can register today at https://forms.gle/xqFxKyCW5ZbMdER77.
