Charges filed in fatal accident in Monroe County

VILLAGE OF OAKDALE, Wis. (WEAU) – Charges have been filed after a fatal accident in the village of Oakdale on Friday, November 1.

According to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, a vehicle was traveling in a construction zone on Interstate 90 near the village of Oakdale when it rear-ended a semi Friday evening. The driver, identified as 25-year-old Isaac Morales Jr., then lost control of the vehicle and struck a road surfacer. The construction worker operating the paving machine, identified as 35-year-old Andrew Skupniewitz, died at the scene.

In an updated press release from the Sheriff’s Office, Morales was arrested on November 2 and booked into the Monroe County Jail.

Morales was charged with first-degree reckless homicide, homicide by intoxicated use of a vehicle, knowingly operating while revoked causing both death and great bodily harm, reckless driving causing great bodily harm, injury by intoxicated use of a vehicle and possession of THC.

Cash bail was set at $250,000, subject to conditions. A first performance is scheduled for December 16 at 9 a.m
