Chicago Traffic: Trooper hospitalized after I-57 crash in northbound lanes in Morgan Park near 107th Street, ISP says

CHICAGO (WLS) — An Illinois State Police trooper was investigating a crash when another vehicle struck him on Interstate 57 Monday morning.

The crash happened just after 10:20 a.m. in the northbound lanes of I-57 near 107th Street in Morgan Park.

“I kept hearing the ambulance and police helicopters in the area, and I didn’t know what was going on. I just came over,” said resident Londell Williams.

For a time, northbound traffic could only pass in the leftmost lane.

“When I came there was a lot more traffic here, trucks were turning over,” said resident Patricia Wilson.

The soldier was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

“I know the paramedics were down there. And as I walked away, they brought out the stretcher to put someone on it,” said motorist Dedric McCullough.

Police did not immediately provide identifying information about the trooper or details about the vehicle that struck him.
