Tony Khan on AEW Roster Split- ‘Not a bad thought, I would consider it and might consider it’

During the recent media call for AEW WrestleDream 2024, AEW President Tony Khan announced another iconic match for tonight’s ROH TV episode, stating that it solidified his appreciation for Ring Of Honor.

Last week, ROH TV began incorporating classic matches into its programming, starting with Samoa Joe vs. Kenta Kobashi.

This week’s episode will feature the Bryan Danielson vs. KENTA match from Glory By Honor V in 2006.

Khan said: “This week we go to WrestleDream, given what’s at stake and everything Bryan Danielson has brought to the table and this great run he’s having as AEW World Champion. Since ROH was where I first met Bryan, this week I wanted to showcase Bryan in one of the two matches that really made me a huge ROH fan. So I mentioned one that aired last week which was Samoa Joe vs. Kenta Kobashi, which was one of the two DVDs I bought when I was in college that really got me into ROH, the other one, I think it was more recent at the time, if I remember correctly, was Bryan Danielson vs. KENTA.

Khan also addressed the possibility of a possible roster split in AEW. A soft roster split was reportedly on the horizon following the launch of AEW Collision, as several wrestlers were exclusive to that show.

Khan continued, Not a bad thought. It’s an interesting thought. I’ve definitely considered a lot of iterations of roster management and I’m still working on some really exciting things in terms of the future of AEW media and the AEW roster. It’s too early to speculate about the new deal and what’s to come, but it’s an interesting thought. I reflected on this and thought. It’s a good thought. One way or another, I considered it. It’s an interesting idea, but now we definitely have some very interesting things happening on the shows. It’s an interesting thought and in the future something I would and might consider.”
