How to solve the Lakeview Hotel bookshelf puzzle in Silent Hill 2 Remake

The bookcase puzzle in the Lakeview Hotel is found on the 2nd floor of the Reading Room. To get to this room, you will first need to gain access to the Sunshine Wing. The key that unlocks this wing is found in the Pantry. Go to the hallway to the right of the Music Box Puzzle in the lobby and then go south down the hallway. The Utility Room is next to Room 107, at the bottom of the hallway. The Sunshine Wing Key is found on the table.

Go to the stairs in the center of the lobby. At the top of the stairs, go right to find the door and unlock it. The Reading Room is the first door on the right. Inside, there are 4 books that can be found around the room. Each has a gold symbol on the spine.

The symbols correspond to an animal in the giant painting on the right wall. There is a lion, an eagle, a bull and a winged man. In the center is a dead man pierced by two spears. This is the key to the bookshelf puzzle.

Go to the Bookshelf in the southeast corner of the Reading Room and interact with it. There will be 4 open spaces on the shelf with a gold medallion in the center engraved with two spears. The medallion’s spears are facing upwards. Since the spears in the painting are facing down, you will need to imagine the painting is upside down and place the books in the locations on the animal that correspond to the symbol on the spine. Here’s the breakdown of where to place each book:

• Winged Man in the upper left corner.
• Bull in the lower left corner.
• Lion in the lower right corner.
• Eagle in the upper right corner.

This will cause the bookcase to slide back and out of the way, revealing a secret passage that leads to room 205, where you can complete the suitcase puzzle.
