BV School Board to consider proposed budget for 2024 to 2025, – by Carly Winchell

The Buena Vista (BV) Board of Education (BoE) will meet soon on Monday, June 3 at 113 North Court Street. The afternoon will begin with a study session and dinner at 4:30 p.m. to discuss the agenda planning timeline and receive mandatory training. The regular meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m.

The proposed 2024 to 2025 budget, special policy updates, and participation in the Colorado Association of School Boards (CASB) are up for discussion and action.

Community members have the opportunity to provide public comments during the meeting. Comments are limited to three minutes per person or fifteen minutes per topic.

Communications reports from principals, superintendents, and the strategy team are expected alongside reports from the board regarding the District Accountability Committee (DAC), Board of Cooperative Educational Services (BOCES), and Board of Directors. elementary/preschool campus. The superintendent’s report will focus on the ENDS 2 measure: attendance/behavior.

The Council will also discuss an oversight report on GP 12: Process for Addressing Council Member Violations. This policy states:

“The Council and its members undertake to faithfully comply with the provisions of the Council’s policies. In the event of a willful and continued violation of the policy by a member, the Board will seek redress through the following process:

    1. Conversation in a private setting between the offending member and the chair of the board of directors or another individual member
    2. Discussion in private session between the offending member and the entire Council (if the law allows)
    3. Public censorship of the offending board member.

The agenda states: “The Board of Education may go into executive session for authorized purposes pursuant to Colo. Rev Stat. 24-6-402 (4). No specific reason for an executive session is cited.

The consent program subject to approval includes a number of monitoring reports and reviews:

April Financial Statements, Notification of Coaching Assignments, Resolution to Change Preschool Tuition for School Year 2024 to 2025, Resolution to Add Signatories for High School and Middle School Activities BV , as well as regular approval of contracts and notifications of resignation and retirement are included in the consent program as well.

The next regular meeting of the BV BoE is scheduled for Monday, June 24 at 6:30 p.m. A study session at 5:00 p.m. will precede this meeting.
