How to solve the Lakeview Hotel gem box puzzle in Silent Hill 2 Remake

The Gemstone Box Puzzle is found in the basement of the Lakeview Hotel. To get to this area, you first need to get the elevator key from the employee in the suitcase in room 205 by solving the puzzle on the bookshelf in the reading room. It can be opened by completing the Vanity Mirror Puzzle, which can be skipped if you know the password as it does not change between playthroughs, although the code depends on the difficulty of the puzzle. • Light difficulty: DARK DESIRE
• Standard Difficulty: WRITING DONE
• Hard Difficulty: LOVE LUST

Enter the code on the suitcase to obtain the employee’s elevator key.

Go to the employee elevator on the 2nd floor south of the infirmary. Before you can take the elevator to the basement, you will need to leave your items in the nearby closet. While you can keep Angela’s Knife, Mary’s Letter, and Mary’s Photo, everything else must be kept. This means you will need to get through the next area with no way to defend yourself.

Once in the basement, jump to the break room to avoid the deadly mandarins that patrol the area. You can also pick up a map of the area while you’re here. You will find the gem box puzzle in the manager’s office in the top left corner of the map. This is a small square on the table with a symbol divided into three parts in the center. Your job is to find 3 gems around the basement to make these pieces form the symbol shown on the wall opposite the table.

The Red Gemstone can be found in the Manager’s Room, to the right of the office. Go to the TV room and go through the small opening to enter the room. On a dresser directly to the left of the gap is a box that can be opened. Inside is the Red Gemstone.

The Blue Gemstone can be found by entering the hallway outside the manager’s office and heading towards the bottom left corner of the basement. Enter the Pantry and through another door enter the Freezer Room. Inside the open fridge is the Blue Gemstone.

The Green Gemstone is in the kitchen. Enter the Cafeteria directly south of the Freezer Room and go east to reach the Kitchen. In the lower right corner of the Kitchen, the Green Gemstone is on the counter.

Return to the Gem Box and place the items you collected in the following locations:

• Red Gemstone is in the upper right black space.
• Blue Gemstone is in the bottom left blank space.
• Green Gemstone is in the top left black space.

This will align the image and a small compartment will open with paper inside. This paper will say 7-4-1-4, which is the code needed to open the basement safe.
