What Georgia voters need to know before heading to the polls

COLUMBUS, Ga. (WTVM) – More than 90 counties in the Peach State exceeded 50 percent voter turnout during early voting, including Muscogee County. Since tomorrow is Election Day, there are some important reminders for voters heading to the polls.

Muscogee County has 25 districts and voters need to know which district to go to. In addition, there will be “no campaigning” within 50 meters of the polling stations, which includes wearing shirts or other paraphernalia with a candidate’s name.

“The polling stations will open on Tuesday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Bring your photo ID,” said Muscogee County Director of Elections and Registration Nancy Boren. “It must be a government ID – one of the approved IDs, a driver’s license, passport, military ID or government ID.”

Boren emphasizes that voters should not wear clothing with a candidate’s name when voting. If problems arise while voting, voters can raise concerns by contacting the elections office or the Secretary of State’s office. She also noted that handing out food or water to voters is not allowed. “So you don’t want to hand it out to people standing in line; you want to be more than 50 yards away from where the voting is taking place,” Boren said.

She mentions that there will be a security officer at every polling station. “We have security plans; We have been working with local police for weeks for this big day, so we will be ready,” Boren said.

As long as you are in line by 7pm on election night, you can vote. “We’ll put a poll worker at the back of the line at 7 p.m. when voting ends. Anyone standing in line at the polling station at 7 p.m. can cast their vote.”

Boren assures that law enforcement officers will be at every polling place tomorrow during voting hours.
