Election 2024 live updates: Kamala Harris and Donald Trump enter the final push before Election Day

Officials in several Pennsylvania counties continue to investigate potentially fraudulent voter registration applications as Trump has made some misleading or false claims about the incident.

Authorities in Lancaster, Berks, Monroe and York counties are investigating thousands of voter registration applications that several officials in the state say are potentially fraudulent. During the ongoing investigation, some applications have been confirmed to be fraudulent, while others have been determined to be legitimate according to updates.

Yet Trump said last week that Lancaster County was “caught…with 2,600 votes.”

“They found, as I understand it, I mean, I don’t know what happened last day, but in Lancaster they found 2,600 ballots, all done by the same hand,” Trump said Sunday in Pennsylvania. .

But according to Pennsylvania’s attorney general, Trump’s characterization is untrue. In a statement last week, the state’s top prosecutor, Michelle Henry, said that “the investigations involve voter registration forms, not ballots.”

Also Monday, Lancaster County officials reported that of about 2,500 applications examined, more than half were valid. According to Lancaster County Commissioner Ray D’Agostino, 57% of applications have been verified, 17% have been determined to be fraudulent and 26% are still under investigation and are incomplete or unverified.

D’Agostino emphasized that the investigation with the prosecutor is still ongoing. “We take this very seriously,” he said.

In York County, officials said last week that their review of a batch of 3,087 applications resulted in 47% being verified “as legitimate” and approved, 29% incomplete and pending, and 24% rejected and under investigation by the Police. DA.

Election officials have emphasized that this alleged fraud was contained and stopped – and say the agency is highlighting the effectiveness of the system. Henry said the fraud attempts “have been defeated.”

“These efforts have been thwarted by security measures in Pennsylvania,” Henry said in her statement last week.
