Egypt holds the Israeli government responsible for the cancellation of UNRWA

Egypt on Monday strongly condemned Israel’s decision to withdraw from the agreement governing the activities of the Israeli army United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian Refugees (UNRWA) and officially cease its work.

In a Foreign Ministry statement, Egypt warned that this unacceptable decision marks a new chapter in Israel’s violations of international law.

The statement added that this move constitutes a dangerous development by which Israel seeks to liquidate the Palestinian cause and is an unacceptable disrespect to the UN, its agencies and the international community.

Egypt reaffirmed its support for the steadfastness of the Palestinian people on its land.

He reiterated the need for the international community’s commitment to support the legitimate and inalienable rights of the Palestinian people, including the right of return, which does not expire with the passage of time and is guaranteed by human rights and international law.

The statement warned of the serious consequences of this illegal decision for defenseless Palestinian civilians and of the possible collapse of humanitarian work and essential services provided to them.

Egypt held the Israeli government fully responsible for the consequences of this decision.

Egypt reiterates that the role of UNRWA cannot be eliminated or replaced, and that the Security Council must assume its role to maintain international peace and security, especially given the unfortunate international inaction towards the daily suffering of the Palestinian people as a result of the brutal war that Israel is waging.

It called on the international community to address Israel’s violations, which aim to restrict services that alleviate the suffering of Palestinian citizens.
