Murder investigation in Plymouth after stabbing victim dies

A man has been killed in a stabbing in Plymouth, police have confirmed.

Devon and Cornwall Police said officers were called to Cambridge Road at around 2.30pm GMT on Monday after receiving reports that a man had been stabbed.

In an update issued on Tuesday, the force said a 36-year-old man from Plymouth was pronounced dead at the scene and a murder investigation had been launched.

Det Ch Insp Steve Fleetwood, the senior investigating officer in the case, said the cordons remain in place and officers are looking for two men.

He added that the identities of the men are known to police and that “investigations are ongoing to find them.”

Mr Fleetwood said there will be an “increased police presence” in the coming days as officers gather evidence to “bring an offender to justice for the victim’s family”.

“At this time I would like to reassure the community and beyond in Plymouth that there is no suggestion that there is a greater risk to the public,” he said.

Mr Fleetwood added that a weapon believed to have been used in the incident had been seized. He confirmed it was “not any form of firearm”.
