Meet the 7 Florida Women on Forbes’ ‘Richest Self-Made Women’ List – NBC 6 South Florida

Florida is well-represented on Forbes’ latest list of “Richest Self-Made Women” released last week.

A total of seven women from the Sunshine State made the list that ranks the nation’s 100 most successful female entrepreneurs, executives and artists.


The top-ranked woman in Florida and 20th on the list is Safra Catz, of Fort Lauderdale, with a net worth of $1.9 billion.

Catz, 62, is the CEO of computer technology company Oracle, which she joined in 1999.

According to Forbes, Catz, born in Israel, earned a law degree from the University of Pennsylvania and worked on Wall Street for 14 years in the software industry.


At No. 27 on the list is Neerja Sethi, of Fisher Island, with a net worth of $1 billion.

Sethi, 69, co-founded the IT consulting and outsourcing company Syntel with her husband Bharat Desai in 1980 in their Troy, Michigan, apartment with an initial investment of $2,000. It was purchased for $3.4 billion in 2018 and Sethi obtained an estimated $510 million stake.


The 42nd place on the list is Martine Rothblatt of Satellite Beach, with a net worth of $820 million.

Rothblatt, 69, co-founded Sirius Satellite Radio in 1990, then founded United Therapeutics after his daughter was diagnosed with pulmonary arterial hypertension.

The company sells five FDA-approved drugs to help people with the disease and is experimenting with pig cloning and genetic modification to create lung transplants that the human body does not reject.


At No. 58 is Judy Sheindlin, also known as TV’s “Judge Judy,” who lives in Naples and has a net worth of $560 million.

Sheindlin earned $47 million a year, before taxes, hosting the once top-rated daytime show and was the highest-paid TV host in 2018, after selling the rights to its 5,200-episode library , as well as future episodes, to CBS the previous year for some. 100 million dollars.

The 64th place on the list is Lucy Guo, from Miami, with a net worth of $500 million.

Guo, 29, founded and runs Passes, a platform for creators to share tips and more. She co-founded the artificial intelligence company Scale AI, but left it in 2018.


Doreen Granpeesheh of Marco Island comes in at No. 87 on the list, with a net worth of $390 million.

Granpeesheh, 61, founded the Center for Autism and Related Disorders, an autism treatment company, in 1990.

She served as CEO and majority owner of the company until 2018, when she sold it to Blackstone in a deal that valued it at $600 million. The company then filed for bankruptcy protection and Granpeesheh bought it out for $50 million.


The last Florida woman on the list, at No. 97, is tennis superstar Serena Williams, who lives in Jupiter and has a net worth of $340 million.

Williams earned nearly $95 million in prize money during her career before retiring in 2022, but she still has endorsement deals with more than a dozen brands.
