An Indian restaurant has gone viral for mistaking a fan for Paul Weller before the musician’s concert in Wolverhampton.

Last Tuesday (October 22), the owners of Khans Restaurant took to their official Facebook page to share a photo they took with a man who looked uncannily like the singer, songwriter and former lead singer of The Jam, while having dinner at the establishment. Weller was in town for a show at Civic Hall that night.

“The legend Paul Weller is here having dinner tonight, just before he performs in the halls. Such an amazing gentleman. Thank you #paulweller for choosing us for your dining experience,” the post caption read.

The news of the alleged musician eating at the Indian restaurant was reported by the local newspaper Expresso and Estrela but has since been deleted after it was discovered that Weller was not the person dining at the establishment.

“That’s not Weller…. It’s Iggy Pop,” one Facebook user wrote in the post’s comments, while two others shared: “When you ask for Paul Weller from Wish” and “Not sure if it’s MOD Father, to be honest.”

The Facebook group Angry People in Local Newspapers shared the Expresso and Estrelathe post of the article written about Weller allegedly dining at the establishment and captioned: “Just one big problem with this story. It’s not Weller – he was in the tube station at the time”, in reference to The Jam’s 1978 ‘Down In The Tube Station At Midnight’.

Fans also took to the comments on Khans Restaurant’s original post to speculate whether mistaking a customer for Weller was a genuine mistake or just a marketing scheme to gain press and attention while the musician was in town.

“Khans Restaurant – congratulations on your marketing idea, look how many people are talking about it,” commented one user with the establishment’s owners responding with the 100 percent emoji. Another user shared: “How to get lots of free publicity on national radio stations, TV and social media! Good job!”

In other news, Steve McQueen recently revealed how he convinced Weller to act in ‘Blitz’, sharing that the musician “was on the fence” about starring in his new WWII drama but ended up “trusting” the director.
