Returnee from Switzerland found hanging dead in his room in Koforidua

The deceased, identified as Andrews, is believed to be around 60 years old.

A Ghanaian identified as Mr Andrews, who reportedly recently returned from Switzerland, was discovered dead, hanging in a rented room in Two Streams, a suburb of Koforidua, the Eastern regional capital.

Andrews, believed to be in his 60s, was found neatly dressed in a suit and shoes, with glasses adorning his face, hanging from a rope attached to the door frame. Oddly, his legs were touching the ground.

Residents say Mr Andrews, who claimed to be resident in Switzerland but was originally from Ghana, had been living in the area for about six months. He was known to drink and socialize with some young people in the community.

He mentioned having a family in Switzerland, while specifying that his extended relatives resided in the central region and that he had built a house in Accra.

Just days before his death, Mr Andrews had told some residents he would return to Switzerland for the weekend.

He would have had his belongings transported a few days ago by a relative to the family home, in the Center region.

The sudden and unexpected nature of his death left the community in shock and speculation.

Police transported the deceased’s body to the morgue for further examination, pending an autopsy.
