Search for man caught on CCTV kicking seagull to death

WARNING – DISTRESSING CONTENT: The hunt is on for a man caught on CCTV fatally kicking a seagull in a “horrific” attack.

The footage shows the unknown man approaching the bird in a car park in the town of Rhondda Cynon Taf, South Wales, and kicking it repeatedly.

The seagull died following the incident, which occurred around 3:40 p.m. on May 1.

RSPCA inspector Simon Evans described the attack as “horrific”.

“CCTV footage shows this man deliberately kicking this seagull, while the bird already appears incapacitated and completely defenseless.

“There is absolutely no justification for this level of cruelty towards the bird – which is protected, like all British birds, by the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981.

“We are appealing for any information to try to find out who this man is. He wore jeans and a red zip-up top, trainers and had dark hair and facial hair.

The seagull’s body was found following the incident, and RSPCA investigations are ongoing.

Mr Evans urged anyone who saw the shocking incident to contact police.

Violent attacks on seagulls

This is not the first time such an incident has been filmed.

A man was filmed kicking a seagull on a British beach last year. And another beat a seagull to death after it pinched a crisp from his plate while eating on Weston-super-Mare seafront.

And last September, an American man was fined $124 (A$172) after kicking a seagull that had eaten his cheeseburger.

Nate Rancloes, a veteran, said the incident was a “simple mistake” and that he was simply trying to chase the bird away.

“It was a one-in-a-million stroke of bad luck that couldn’t be repeated,” he said.
