Pickup truck driver killed man and failed to stop

Gastonia police are searching for the driver of a pickup truck that struck and killed a 60-year-old man on May 27.

David Bolin of Blacksburg, South Carolina, was walking in the median in the 3100 block of East Franklin Boulevard at 10:13 p.m. when he was struck, according to police.

The van that hit him may have damaged the driver’s side mirror.

Bolin’s niece, Lisa Self, of Ellenboro, said Bolin was “a kind soul.”

“He would give you the shirt off his back,” she said.

She said Bolin was first struck by the van, which failed to stop, and then was struck again by a second vehicle, which had stopped.

“To my mother, he is everything. She can’t talk without crying right now. She just wants justice. She wants to know who did this,” she said.
