Shasta Lake elections result in council race for 3 seats

Three incumbents are trying to keep their seats on the Shasta Lake City Council in Tuesday’s election.

Former councilor Greg Watkins wants to serve a fifth term on stage. He was first elected in 2008.

Mayor Janice Powell is seeking a third term and Councilwoman Tena Eisenbeisz is seeking a second term after winning a special election in March 2023 to fill the seat vacated by Matt Doyle when he left town.

The three incumbents are being challenged by retired City Clerk Toni Coates, retired California Highway Patrol Officer Daniel Ringwelski and businesswoman Dolores Lucero, who is also running for the Shasta Board of Education, Area 2 on the Nov. 5 ballot.

Lucero previously served on the Shasta Lake City Council but was ousted in 2012. In 2014, a Shasta County jury found her guilty of presenting false evidence in court documents intended to stop the 2012 recall, a crime she denied.

The candidates told Record Searchlight in September that issues such as maintaining or replacing utilities, bringing more business to the city and public safety are important to them.
