Aiken’s daughter reportedly threw bleach in mother’s eyes while children were present

AIKEN, S.C. (WRDW/WAGT) – Authorities say a daughter has been accused of throwing bleach in her mother’s eyes while two juveniles were present in Aiken.

Aiken Public Safety Officers say they responded to the 1300 block of Triple Tree Lane on Nov. 3 around 1:08 p.m. in reference to a disturbance.

Officers said they found the victim sitting up in a chair in the driveway with the help of a neighbor. They said they immediately noticed the victim’s eyes were swollen shut and there was an overwhelming odor of bleach.

Officers said the victim’s clothing was stained with bleach and she told them her daughter had attacked her.

When officers encountered the suspect, Kissante Sanders, 25, they said she also had bleach stains on the front of her shirt.

Sanders stated that she was trying to wash the dishes and claimed that her mother began arguing with her and hitting her arm in an attempt to prevent her from using bleach in the dishwater, the report said.

Sanders said she hit back at her mother and threw bleach in her face, claiming it was in self-defense, the report said.

Officers say Sanders also stated that her mother continued to fight with her, but would not say what caused her mother’s eyes to swell shut. She only reiterated that she was fighting in self-defense.

When officers entered the apartment, they said “the odor of bleach was overpowering and overpowering,” the report said.

Officers say they then found two juveniles in the living room and removed them from the dangerous area.

Officers state that they called emergency services to assess the condition of both the young people and the victim.

The victim was transported to ARMC for further treatment and the juveniles were left in the care of officers, according to the report.

The report also stated that officers noticed bleach on both juveniles’ clothing and smelled like bleach.

Due to the potential for serious bodily harm to the victim’s eyes, Sanders was arrested for assault and battery, according to officials.

The bleach found in the victim’s eyes and the possibility of being swallowed during the incident could cause permanent loss or impairment of her vision and damage to her internal organs, officials said.

Sanders was pulled over by NCIC and she was wanted by Blackville police, officials say. She was then transported directly to the Aiken County Detention Center.

Officers returned to speak with the victim after Sanders was arrested.

The victim told officers she was in her room on the phone with her mother when she left her room and went to the kitchen, the report said.

Officers said she told them Sanders attacked her with the bleach and pushed her to the ground. She punched her repeatedly in the face and head area.

She also alleged that the Sanders grabbed her by the hair and began slamming her face into the floor. The bleach caused Sanders to vomit on the victim, but she continued the attack, the report said.

Because of the unreasonable risk of harm affecting the safety of both youths, Sanders was also charged with two counts of unlawful conduct toward a child, officials say.
