PALESTINE – A Warsaw man was recently arrested for allegedly trying to use a vehicle to run over a woman.

Joshua Allen Shepherd, 29, 2948 W. 200S, Warsaw, is charged with criminal recklessness committed with a deadly weapon, a Level 6 felony; and criminal mischief, a class A misdemeanor.

On March 16, a Kosciusko County sheriff’s deputy responded to a report of a crime in Palestine. Upon arrival, the deputy spoke with a woman who was verbally arguing with Shepherd.

According to court documents, the woman said the argument escalated when Shepherd pulled a handle on a hydraulic jack, hitting the windshield of the woman’s vehicle. This caused the windshield to crack. Shortly after doing so, Shepherd allegedly got into his car and drove toward the woman, attempting to hit her. He then left the area.

While reviewing the security footage, the deputy saw Shepherd walk up to the hydraulic jack, pull the handle off and use it to aggressively hit the woman’s vehicle multiple times. It caused damage to the vehicle’s windshield and passenger mirror. The footage also showed Shepherd getting into his car and driving toward the woman, almost hitting her.

The deputy then spoke with Shepherd, who said the woman’s windshield was cracked by another person. He admitted hitting one of the vehicle’s mirrors with a jack. After Shepherd was told about the security footage, he admitted to hitting the windshield of the vehicle.

Shepherd was booked into the Kosciusko County Jail on Nov. 3.
