Election Night 2024: Live updates, coverage and results

California’s electorate is younger and more diverse. Many worry that Trump would not accept defeat, according to opinion polls

A broad swath of California’s electorate is expected to vote in this election, although some voters are concerned about the prospect that one of the presidential candidates will not accept the results, according to a new poll released Tuesday.

Presidential elections historically attract much larger turnout than off-year elections, and 2024 will undoubtedly be no different. The election is expected to bring in the usual participants: older, white people; homeowners and people with a higher education or income level.

But the election is also expected to draw turnout from lower-propensity voter groups — including at least 65% of renters, voters of color and people with lower education or income levels, according to the poll conducted by the UC Berkeley Institute of Governmental Studies and co. -sponsored by The Times.
