Kinkaider Brewing Co. announces new Tri-Cities location following plans to close Grand Island Brewery

KEARNEY, Neb. (KSNB) – Kinkaider Brewing Company is moving its retail license from Grand Island to Kearney.

Cody Schmick, co-owner of Kinkaider, said they plan to open a location just off I-80 in Kearney.

Schmick said they are working with the Younes family to be part of their complex, which continues to expand with hotels, restaurants and the new sports complex being built in that area.

“We have an opportunity to be part of something much bigger,” he said.

Schmick announced on Facebook Live Friday afternoon that they plan to build a location from the ground up with both Kinkaider and their other brand, Bierhaus, working side by side.

“This is a new model for us,” said Schmick, who described the venue’s layout as similar to Cunningham’s on the lake, where seating overlooks the water.

Kinkaider’s new development offers picturesque views of the lake from across the street.

The Kearney site will include twin buildings with outdoor spaces for families, play areas for children and additional businesses nearby.

“(We’re) very excited about the opportunity and ability to be there,” he said.

Schmick added that the facility will have a retail store with merchandise showcasing Kinkaider products.

The Grand Island location, which opened in 2018, will close on Halloween and some of its equipment will be redistributed to other Kinkaider locations in Lincoln, Omaha and the original brewery in Broken Bow.

A major factor in the move, according to Schmick, was the relocation of the retail license from Grand Island to Kearney, which allowed the brewery to undertake this expansion. He thanked Grand Island staff and supporters and encouraged customers to continue supporting local businesses in the area.

Schmick also announced a new partnership with The Liederkranz on Grand Island, which will serve Kinkaider beer.

Kinkaider Brewing Company is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year.
