Mohaather is the star attraction as a six-figure sacrifice sets Goff’s ring on fire

Mohaather is the star attraction as a six-figure sacrifice sets Goff’s ring on fire

It was a bonfire night across Britain, but Barry Lynch and Jack Davison hope to have a good reason to commemorate November 5 in the future after taking the most expensive yearling by a significant margin at the opening session of the Goffs Autumn Yearling Sale bought.

The sale was a roaring success three years ago when the range of sparklers from Derrinstown Stud and Shadwell dazzled buyers during the operation’s stock reduction. With the numbers now at their best, just two yearlings from Derrinstown were offered to buyers on Tuesday evening, and it was a filly by Shadwell’s own young stallion Mohaather that set the buyers on fire.

It was like Sydney Harbor on New Year’s Eve when the beautiful deep bay filly caused an explosion of bidding and commanded the podium from all directions.

Trainer Jack Davison and agent Barry Lynch were the dynamic duo who secured the half-sister of Listed Agnes Keyser Fillies’ Stakes winner Al Asifah for €110,000, making her the only six-figure yearling of the session.

Davison said: “She is for an American-based client of mine. I wanted to buy a very beautiful filly and she is beautiful, the most beautiful filly on sale and a real highlight for me, so I am delighted to get her.”

She is a late April foal and is the fourth product of her mother, Aneen, who ended her career by finishing second in the Listed Cooley Stakes at Dundalk to Kevin Prendergast and Chris Hayes.

The ten-year-old is a half-sister to Lawman by Awtaad, who won the Irish 2,000 Guineas ahead of Prendergast and Hayes, and Aneen is also a half-sister to Listed Cairn Rouge Stakes winner Mehnah and Alghabrah, who finished third in the group. 3 Derrinstown Stud 1,000 Guineas trial. They too were trained by the legendary Prendergast and ridden by the top class Hayes.

Prendergast’s Group 2 Golden Fleece Stakes winner Madhmoon, second to Anthony Van Dyck in the Derby, is also on the page.

“She is a beautiful filly, very well bred and from an exciting young sire. Jack has a good Mohaather gelding called Glenderry. He won after just the second start and was second on debut at the Curragh from Aftermath, coming third in the Group 2 Champagne Stakes, so he looks like a nice horse,” said Lynch.

Glenderry is one of 19 individual winners from Sussex Stakes winner Mohaather’s first crop and that figure includes Group 3 Molecomb Stakes winner Big Mo and listed winners Yah Mo Be There and Merveilleux Lapin, as well as Serving With Style, who finished second . in the Group 2 Rockfel Stakes.

Derrinstown also offered a colt by Derby winner Masar and it was Prendergast himself who signed for the bay for €29,000. He is the first foal of Almareekh, a full sister to War Front of European Free Handicap winner and Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere third Whitecliffsofdover.

The venerable trainer was not in charge of Almareekh, who at the age of three was a three-time winner for another giant of the sport in Sir Michael Stoute.

This cohort of yearlings from Sioux Nation is the last of his cheaper-bred offspring to hit the market, as his fee has risen sharply over the past two seasons from $10,000 in 2022 to $27,500 this year. Coolmore added a more modest €2,500 to his 2025 fee when he announced next season’s prices on Tuesday evening, so the €42,000 Johnny Collins of Brown Island Stables gave for Old Carhue Stud’s colt at Goffs could well be a bargain could be if that story comes true. be written.

As the second foal out of Ubume, a daughter of Ruler Of The World, he will join the Brown Island brigade.

“I’m almost at my quota for next year now, although I might buy one more,” Collins said.

Eoin Sullivan signed for the most expensive Sioux Nation filly of the session by giving €35,000 for Listed sprinter Aine’s daughter of Alice Fitzgerald, who won the Belgrave Stakes for Tommy Stack and was placed in four other Listed races.

“I bought her for a Saudi Arabian owner and the plans are fluid; she could be exported or she could stay in Ireland and be trained here for her two-year-old season. I have bought a few horses for this client in the recent weeks and he is thinking about having a few runners in Ireland,” said Sullivan.

“We really wanted to have a Sioux Nation filly, but it was difficult to buy one; it still is! She is out of a black type mare by Danehill Dancer, which is never a bad thing. She comes from a really good hotel and is a beautiful athletic and active type of filly.”

Aine is out of Listed Cecil Frail Stakes winner Antinnaz of Thatching, who finished third in the Flying Five Stakes and is a half-sister to the third Queen Mary Firefly.

The first crop of Tally Ho Stud’s July Cup winner Starman shone at the yearling sale and it was more the same here, with a colt and filly by the son of Dutch Art each selling for €38,000.

The first to reach that mark was a half-sister to Grade 2 Del Mar Mile Stakes and Seabiscuit Handicap winner Hong Kong Harry, who also finished third in the Grade 1 Shoemaker Mile. Another of her half-siblings in the Listed Prix des Jouvenceaux et des Jouvencelles second Body Sculpt, by Kendargent.

Joe Quinn, who signed as Breeze-Up 2025 Syndicate, was the buyer of the chestnut who is a half-sister to a total of six winners. It wasn’t a shock to find out what his plans were.

“She is a nice filly and also has a nice page behind her,” he said. “It was very difficult to buy horses at the previous auctions, but this is a beautiful model and I am happy to have her. I already have ten for the first auctions, and maybe I will get one or two more. “

Ger Lyons, who can now add the Breeders’ Cup-winning trainer to his long list of achievements, purchased the Starman colt from Boherguy Stud together with long-time partner Gaelic Bloodstock.

As the first foal of the unraced Aretha, who shares her father Mehmas with Lyons’ Breeders’ Cup winner Magnum Force, he has a pedigree that is all speed and speed.

Aretha is a three-part sister to Power Under Me, whose six wins for Lyons and Vincent Gaul include the Group 3 Amethyst Stakes and three listed races. She is also a half-sister to two-time Listed City Plate winner Majestic Style and to Kassandra, the dam of this season’s Queen Mary winner Leovanni, who finished third in the Lowther.

There were 121 yearlings cataloged in the session following the Autumn Horses in Training Sale with 110 offered and 81 sold, giving a clearance rate of 74 per cent and generating sales of €771,200.

The session average was €9,521, with a median of €4,000. The sale continues Wednesday at 10 a.m.
