Coroner identifies woman killed in Shingletown shooting

The Shasta County Coroner’s Office has identified the victim of a fatal shooting in Shingletown as 64-year-old Jennifer Anne Sourp-Cain from Cloverdale, California.

Emergency responders pronounced Sourp-Cain dead at the scene in the 34000 block of Side Bottom Road, a deputy coroner’s investigator said. Authorities have informed her next of kin and a post-mortem examination is planned.

The Shasta County Sheriff’s Office and the Shasta County Coroner’s Office continue to investigate the case.

The man accused of Sourp-Cain’s murder Joseph Colin Scribner, 46appeared in court on October 30 on felony charges of murder and assault with a firearm, along with the special charge of personal use of a firearm causing serious bodily injury or death. The charges are related to the incident on October 25, 2024, when officers responded to reports of a gunshot victim at the same location.

Inside the home, officers found a deceased woman with an apparent gunshot wound, now confirmed to be Sourp-Cain. Writer reportedly admitted to being at the scene at the time of the shooting.

Scribner’s lawyer requested a two-week extension of the summons, which was granted. Scribner remains in custody at the Shasta County Jail without bail.
