Lethbridge police officer charged with assault

A Lethbridge police officer has been charged in connection with a physical altercation that occurred while he was on duty at a jail.

Lethbridge Police (LPS) said the incident occurred on May 10, 2023 at the short-term storage facility.

The altercation, which occurred while a male inmate was being booked, did not result in any injuries.

“The matter came to light following a review of the officer’s use of force report – a document that must be filed if force other than cooperative handcuffs and escort techniques is used,” LPS said in the news release.

The Professional Standards Unit investigated the incident and referred it to the Alberta Crown Prosecution Service.

After reviewing the investigation, prosecutors recommended an assault charge for Chris Stock, a 23-year-old LPS member.

He is expected to appear in court on December 10. He is charged with administrative duties pending the outcome of the case in court.
