Man charged with street racing crimes in Anaheim

A man was involved in a street takeover that injured two bystanders Anaheim has been charged, according to police.

Hassan Hamid Ali, 20, out Torrancewas charged with reckless driving causing injury, assault with a deadly weapon, failure to stop during a collision causing injury or death, all felonies, as well as a misdemeanor count of a speed contest. He also faces sentence enhancements for causing grievous bodily harm.

Authorities say the incident happened around 2 a.m. on Nov. 1 near State College Boulevard and Orangewood Avenue.

Two bystanders were hit by a black Dodge Charger, which was later linked to Ali as the driver. The two 19-year-old victims were found lying on the street next to the car, which was abandoned.

Both teens were hospitalized with broken bones, cuts and abrasions, authorities said.

Investigation revealed that the two bystanders were struck by the Charger when it went out of control. The two were reportedly run over and were briefly trapped under the Charger.

Videos of the incident went viral on social media and thanks to tips from the public, police were able to identify Ali as the driver.

Ali was arrested on Sunday and charged with hit and run and excessive speed.

The investigation is ongoing.
