I-10 westbound reopened after school bus crash

UPDATE: As of 2:40 p.m., all lanes of westbound I-10 are now open.

Here is an earlier update from the Lafayette Police Department on the crash that closed all lanes of westbound I-10 at the Moss Street overpass:

At 12:47 p.m., LPD officers were dispatched to a serious car crash on I-10 WB at MM103B. When officers arrived on scene, it was determined that five (5) school buses and a truck pulling a tire trailer from St. Bernard Parish were involved in the collision. Six students were transported to a local hospital with minor to moderate injuries. The accident occurred because one of the buses collided with the rear of a bus in front of it, causing a chain reaction with the rest of the buses.

Motorists should avoid this area until further notice. An update will follow as soon as more information becomes available and the roadway is open again.

Original story:
Lafayette Police advise westbound motorists on I-10 to get off at the Louisiana Avenue exit to avoid a closure at the Moss Street overpass.

There was a major traffic accident here and police had to close all lanes on the westbound side of the interstate.

We will update this story as soon as possible.
