Boynton Beach man arrested in Lantana for stolen vehicle, drugs and battery on an officer

A Boynton Beach man is facing six criminal charges after a stop of a stolen vehicle resulted in an assault on an officer, controlled substances and probation violations.

According to the affidavit, Lantana police received a report of a stolen vehicle on Wawa, near N Lantana Road and Andrew Redding Road, at 9:49 p.m. Thursday.

The gray 2024 Ford Mustang was found in a parking lot with one occupant, later identified as Jonathan Germain, 30, according to reports.

After being boxed in by Florida Highway Patrol troopers, Germain accelerated the Mustang into reverse, crashing into a trooper’s vehicle before exiting the car and fleeing on foot.

Two responding officers pursued Germain and caught up with him on foot before arresting him and taking him into custody at a nearby KFC.

Authorities said the vehicle was listed as a sixth rental stolen on Oct. 13, according to the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office database.

Troopers then searched the vehicle and found 14 grams of methamphetamine and five grams of crack cocaine.

Troopers also discovered that Germain was on probation, with conditions including no driving and no alcohol or illegal substances.

Germain was taken Thursday to the Palm Beach County Jail where he awaits sentencing.
