Search for killer who shot woman in the back – NBC10 Philadelphia

A month after a woman was shot and killed outside a North Philadelphia grocery store, police are hoping surveillance footage and video will help them find her killer and other suspects.

Victoria Romulus, 32, was walking south along the 4800 block of North Broad Street around 4:45 p.m. on Saturday, May 11, 2024, when at least one shot was fired.

Romulus was shot in the back. She ran into a nearby grocery store and collapsed inside the store, Philadelphia police Detective DF Pace said after the shooting.

People who were inside the grocery store when Romulus arrived told NBC10 she said the word “help” before collapsing.

“It’s horrible. And I’m sick of seeing this. I’m sick of seeing this,” said one witness.

Responding medics took Romulus to a nearby hospital where she died a short time later.

“I thought she would make it. She’s someone’s daughter, maybe someone’s mother. But whoever did it, I hope they catch it,” a witness said.

Filming started more than a block away

Police said they had difficulty finding evidence of a shooting at first, but then discovered three spent shell casings more than a block away, across the street .

On Monday, June 11, 2024, police released surveillance footage showing people wanted in connection with the shooting.

“The attackers encountered several other men who were in the area and the groups appear to have gotten into a verbal argument,” police said Monday. “One of the attackers pulled out a handgun and fired several shots at the other men.”

One of those bullets struck and killed Romulus, police said.

Police shared a video showing three “offenders,” including the shooter, and several persons of interest.

In the video you see the groups dispersing. One person appears to lose their shoe and limps with it in their hand. Another angle from a porch shows three people walking by.

Police have asked for the public’s help in locating those involved. They urged anyone spotting the suspects to immediately call 911. They said tips can be submitted by calling or texting 215-686-8477 or submitting a tip online.

As is the case with all homicides in Philadelphia, a $20,000 reward is available for arrest and conviction.

As of Monday, at least 115 people have been killed in Philadelphia so far in 2024, according to police data. This represents a decrease of approximately 38% compared to the same period last year and the lowest homicide total so far since 2016.
