Lewis Hamilton F1 News: Toto Wolff’s message appears to discourage Mercedes star

Lewis Hamilton was left appearing dejected after a radio message from Mercedes chief Toto Wolff at the Canadian Grand Prix.

The seven-time world champion announced he would leave the team for Ferrari in 2025, and has had a disappointing final season at Mercedes so far.

Hamilton has often lamented the pace of his Mercedes, while falling behind his teammate. George Russellwho beat the champion 8-1 in qualifying.

The 39-year-old suggested the qualifying deficit was the result of favoritism at Mercedes, a claim both Wolff and Russell have denied.

Russell claims podium as Hamilton falters

To compound Hamilton’s current misery, Russell denied Hamilton a third place at the Canadian Grand Prix, making it the longest podium drought of the champion’s career.

Additionally, Russell took pole position in Canada with Hamilton starting the race in P7.

The British driver also seemed depressed on track after receiving a radio message from Toto Wolff’s team.

As Hamilton returned to the pit lane Following a disappointing performance in Canada, Wolff said: “Lewis, the positive is the comeback performance. Master it.

The champion did not respond to the message, but parked his car and shook his head slightly before jumping off the W15.

Whether the discouragement is a result of the team’s message or Hamilton’s own performance, it is clear that he is frustrated with the situation at Mercedes.

Hamilton laments Canada’s ‘poor’ performance

Hamilton was visibly frustrated after the Grand Prix, claiming it as one of the “worst races” he has ever driven in an interview with Sky Sports.

“Over the weekend it was just a really bad performance from me. Yesterday other things came into play, but mostly myself,” Hamilton said.

“And then today was just one of the worst races I’ve driven. Just a lot of mistakes. But of course, if I had qualified better, I would have been in a much better position .”

“So that’s how it is. I’m going to go back to the drawing board.”
