Free Meal Programs Offered Across Greater Cincinnati This Summer

There are dozens of organizations across Greater Cincinnati working to end food insecurity by offering free meal programs to youth this summer. According to Feeding America, approximately 42,000 children live in food insecure households in Hamilton County, Ohio. Children who suffer from hunger are more likely to struggle in school and face behavioral problems. As young people finish school and begin summer vacation, children and families who rely on meals provided at school may worry about where their next meal will come from. From public libraries to churches or community centers, there are organizations across the region working to curb the problem. Some regional programs have eligibility requirements and only offer meals during certain times of the day. Be sure to check out Ohio’s Summer Food Service Program, also known as SUN Meals, children of all ages can eat meals and snacks for free at schools, parks and other neighborhood locations. “SUN Meals may have a different name where you live, but the benefits are the same: meals for children and teens and opportunities to participate in fun activities,” according to the USDA.
