Iowa police officer caught in tornado after rescuing campers from storm

An Iowa police officer was caught in a tornado after rescuing campers from the storm.

Body camera footage shared by the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office shows Sergeant Todd Dollen riding the tornado in his vehicle as it passed overhead on Tuesday, May 21.

He was evacuating people from Hacklebarney Campground near U.S. Highway 34 and U.S. Highway 71.

Sgt. Dollen managed to get a few campers to safety before a tree fell in front of his vehicle and prevented him from seeking shelter for himself.

“Although Montgomery County suffered considerable damage in the eastern part of the county, we are grateful that there were no major injuries and we are thinking of those who were impacted by the storm,” wrote the sheriff’s office next to the video.
